Sounds pretty good. I got mine from the dealer awhile back and while I don't remember the price, it was definitely more than that.

I got mine for $75. I buffed and polished it, and ready to go.

Really nice--is this the drive shaft with the damper people talk about that solves all the vibration problems? Any clearance problems with a single 3" exhaust? Outstanding polish on that DL.

I've alway been intrigued about the damper business. If the drive shaft is properly balanced, why the need? I have the 1LE drive shaft, no damper, and there is no vibration problem at any speed.

Thanks! At the moment, I have 2.5" exhaust, and it clears...also clears my Spohn Torque Arm w/ Front Driveshaft loop.

Excellent--what did these aluminum driveshafts come in? Anything that lightens my driveline is welcome--no vibration in the current one--and, man, what a polish.

Like I said in the very first post, my buddy got his out of a 99 Trans Am Ram Air. But, I'm not sure what other models may have had it. From what I understand they are about 10 pounds lighter than stock thirdgen driveshafts.

Majority of LT1's got a steel shaft from the factory. The 1LE shaft was the replacement shaft for "vibration problems." 2.73 equipped LS1 cars also got a steel shaft from the factory, all others recieved the LS1 aluminum driveshaft.

Naah. In the LS1 years, most all 2.73 fourth gens had steel. Most all 3.23 (A4) and 3.42 (M6) had aluminum. There were exceptions, but there ya go.

OK--Is the aluminum driveshaft obviously aluminum before it's polished, like a satin finish? I'm pretty used to carrying my steel one around--if the aluminum is 10 pounds lighter you can probably tell when you pick it up. Are they fairly common?

I can't recall precisely at the moment, but the 1LE shaft came into production around 88 or 89, I believe. If you hunt, you should be able to locate one. I was once led to believe they were rare, but I found one on the net within twenty minutes ($80 shipped). Recognizing their apparent availability, I bought and sold around 70 of them on this site. Seek and you shall find.

You'll be able to tell very easily even if you don't have a magnet in hand.
