how to remove axle?
i;ve got a b w 9 bolt posi and i need to remove the axel to change brake mounting plate how do i get the axel out. i am used to the regular remove pin slide axel pull c ring but on this i can;t see anything it is all a shell around the spiders

Behind the axle flange there are 4 bolts. Take them out. They hold the bearing retainer plate. Once it's loose, the axle will come out with a good hard pull...keep in mind you're pulling the axle, bearing, and seal all at once. It works best if you buy/borrow/rent a slide hammer.

sorry to dig up an old post, but i'm having the same problem. Since i dont know what an axel flange is, and i've never torn apart a rear end before, i thought i'd ask before i do something and make this job a lot more complicated. Are these the four bolts that i'm supposed to remove? and then i just pull hard?

No those are the main bearing caps. On a 9 bolt you don't need to remove the rear cover to pull the axles.
Pull the wheel off. If drum brakes, pull the drum off. If disk brakes, pull the caliper and rotor off. In behind the axle flange that the wheel bolts to, you'll see 4 bolts around the axle. Those are the bearing flange bolts that hold the axle in. It's the same as a Ford 9" design. There are no C-clips to remove so the rear cover doesn't need to be removed.

hmm, well i'll be, rear cover doesnt have to be removed, what a waste of diff fluid. Well i wanted to have a look in there anyway. If i read your post right, then these are the bolts that are removed? Thanks for your help.
