Not really, changing the cable isn't all that much of a chore anyway. Don't drive the car with it broken.

im not driving with it broken, but i have to be able to drive so i connected it with a wire hange peice..., works, shifts right and everything so as long as the metal on the hanger doesnt streech then it should work right, right?

And obviosly, this is my highest priority at the moment, but it will be a while (2 weeks until i start job) until i get some money so this will have to do. But i have no special tools or anything. so will this be something i will be able to do by myself without any prior knowledge.

And last question, ive seen the cable for 25$ at bowtieoverdrives.com but is this a part i would be able to buy at autozone or pepboys?

Thanks much.

I'm not sure what you mean. Can you post a picture? You should be able to get the cable at any parts store, or a dealer.

just buy a new one and replace it its not a good idea to drive it with a wire holding it on all thats going to happen is that wire is going to break or stretch and then your not going to have proper shifting or pressure in your transmission which leads to failure

i know... i am going to replace it, but at the moment i have no other choice but to rig it to work. and thats what im trying to ask now, how hard is it to do that???

in the picture, the green thing is supposed to be where the wire hanger is at.

and obviosly i will try to drive it as little as possible until i get it done...

Its not too hard of a swap on a v8 car but on a v6 its a little more difficult mainly because of where the tv cable bracket is and trying to get the cable in and out of the braket ..

Removing it at the transmission is simple just use a 10mm iirc socket and ratchet 1/4 in drive is preferable and loosen the bolt that holds the cable to the trasmission and then lift it up and remove the cable from the tab in the transmission then remove it up top and fish it out and fish the new one into place and reverse the process then adjust the cable and your ready to go shouldnt take you too long to accomplish.

Read that as "quarter inch drive".
