Installed Th-350, But Speedo Doesn't Work??

Romoved a failed TH 200C from my 1983 S/E bird this weekend and replaced it with a TH 350. However, speedo cable which worked with the TH 200C doesn't work with the TH 350. Can anybody assist me here? Also, shifter want allow me to manually go to 1st gear. I think I just need to adjust the shift leakage. Am I correct?

Thanks in advance for you help.

It's a 1982 versus 1983.

Okay, here's the problem with my speedo. The 200C trans was mechanical. The TH 350 is electrical. Any suggestions on how I can get around this issue.

There were electric driven th350's. Cant you swap the mechanical stuff over, if not its time for a trip to the boneyard, to find a th350 with mechanica speedo, get the pieces.

Well that sucks!

I'm fairly sure the housing (sleve) from your 200c is the same. Pop it out and plug it in the TH350. The drive gear will most likely be different and to take it out of the 200c will take some doing but it does fit either 200c or Th350 so does the drivwen gear, if an accurate speedometer is also a must.

I'll try to pull the housing sleeve and gear to see if that will work. What do you think about this. The TH 350 came out of my wrecked 86 bird with electronic speedo. Couldn't I just pull the the entire instrumentation panel from the 86 bird and install it my 82? Has anyone done this? Is it feasible?

You can swap it in, but you'll need to re-pin the connectors, and install the buffer box and wiring.

Pete,

Thanks. Sounds like a challenge, but think I'll give it a try.

If were talking a digital dash it may be worth re-pining and swapping over. If its just a plane jane dash EC its really not woth the hassle since all the parts to make the speedo work in your 82 would cost $40 if you had to buy them new and take less then an hour to install.

SSC,

Are you recommending that I not try this? I really do need my speedo to work. I think I can pull the sending unit for the Temp and oil pressure gauges, and the speedo wiring harness (Electric) from my wrecked 86 bird. Will that work? I already have the electrical hook-up on the TH 350 . So it sounds like all I would have to do is replace the current cable with the electrical wiring harness from my 86, replace both oil pressure and temp sending units (taken from the 86 bird), and repin the wires from those units. Also, the gauge cluster from the 86 is different so I would have to move at least a couple of the connections to there proper location. What do you think?

HEY, PETES 84 Z28 ELECTRONIC DASH SWAPOUT

Pete,

Need your help again.

Here's what I've done so far:

1. Got the electronic dash and Buffer removed from my 86 and have wired and transferred it to my 82 bird. I followed your directions to the letter, and installed it last night, but nothing worked. I go some movement on the temp gauge, and check engine light, other than that nothing else worked, not even the dash lights. I then realized the I omitted to read the part about, if I'm installing in a 82 - 85 bird I'll have to do some wiring changes on the back of the 86 cluster in order to make it work correctly.

Can you tell me which wire need to go where in order to make this (86) cluster work in my 82? I've done everything else correctly, but am at a loss on how to change the wiring around.

Thanks a lot for your help.,

Jeff Morgan
