If you don't drag race why worry about it? I always thought that it was the massive clutch dumps to generate good 60' times that killed rear ends.

Nothing's unbreakable. I watched a guy with a 12-bolt blow the Auburn posi out of it drag launching this Summer. Just had a friend trash a Ford 9" in his 406ci IROC convertible.

We haven't heard from you in awhile (or at least I haven't seen any of your posts). I guess you are hanging out in the European section these days.

Anyway, are you running a ten-bolt? I checked your sig and maybe I just missed it. I've got a ten-bolt and Dynodon is holding on to a 9 bolt for me. As soon as I get enough money together that 9-bolt is going in. The parts for the nine-bolt are a bit expensive.

Some people like the Dana 44. If I could find one (and these days they are a tough find), I might go with it, but right now it looks like its going to be a nine-bolt.

That's quite a car you've got there. You must be spending a fortune on gas (or petrol, or whatever it is you call it).

Hi Parry
Ive been in and out of here quite a bit.
Ive got a 9 bolt with posi and 3:27s.Just a bit worried that the torque will kill it.
Fuel economy is not too bad.On a 1200 mile trip through France, Belgium Germany and Holland,I averaged about 20 miles per U.S.Gallon.
This included a lot of high speed motorway(freeway)driving, two thrashing laps around the Nurburgring in Germany plus when a bit late for the boat we had to catch,we averaged 98 mph for the last 78 miles!!
Oh yeah and fuel here and through europe is about $4 per US Gallon.
I know its sounds a lot but weve grown up with mega prices like this and however much our government puts prices up,we will continue to buy.

If your into autocross then you want a Torsen T2R posi unit which is unavailable for 12 bolt or nine inch. You can only get them for the 7.5 which is weak, the 8.5 or the Ford 8.8.

Power

I've heard that a 9-bolt is good to 400 hp, so it looks like you are right at the ragged edge.

There is a guy on this board, Miles, who has a 427 feeding in to a 9 bolt. I assume his power is on par with what you have, but you may want to check his website. It's 9bolt.com, or something like that. If you can't find it, let me know and I'll track it down. He's been keeping quiet since he fell through on a promise to come out with a nice aluminum cover for the 9-bolt rear (are you keeping up on another company's plans for this?)

I'd probably run that 9-bolt until it broke, (and since you aren't drag racing, which is real hard on the axle, that might be awhile) but I can also understand somebody who wants to throw some more money at an incredible ride like that.

If you are not drag racing you will not need to worry about the 10 bolt. There are ways to strengthen the 10 bolt as well. There is an article posted on this site that details how to strengthen the 10 bolt as well as add disc brakes. If by chance you do want to go the 9 bolt route I have have one with 3.27 gears and disc brakes that I want to sell.

Power,

Have you seen this post by Jerrywho?

The Dana 44 will handle any amount of power you will make with a auto trans street car on street tires. The 44 is in Corvettes and the Dodge Viper with 500hp and 500 tq. I have one in my car also and it's runs 1.5 60ft time with no problems.

Heads and cam no nitrous 1.61 60ft 12.590 @ 105.67

I've included Jerrywho's comment, as well as his sig. This guy used to be a sprint car driver here in California, so he knows what he's talking about.

You might want to start looking for a Dana 44 before you go with a custom. Good luck, though, they are out of production.

AXLES?

AS FAR AS UPGRADED AXLES NOBODY MAKES THEM IN 26 SPLINE.SWITCHING OVER TO 28 SPLINE IS A MUCH BETTER WAY TO GO THER ARE PLENTY OF COMPANIES THAT CAN HELP YOU WITH THAT .THE RING OR PINION WILL MOST LIKELY BREAK BEFORE AXLES WILL THOUGH.
