Want to change my lock-up solenoid...

I've never done this before. I've never opened up a tranny before. But reading some articles, it doesn't sound too hard. My question is, does the valve body have to come off to access the solenoid? Can anyone talk me through the swap, step-by-step?

Thanks

No the valve body doesn't have to come off. Just pull the pan, remove the filter and you will see the wires for the solenoid and the solenoid itself. Disconnect the wires and one bolt IIRC, light twist the solenoid and remove it. On a side note here, try not to break the break the wire harness connector that goes through the top of the case. When old they tend to get brittle and break easy. If you think that might happen, they have new ones at the dealership fairly cheap and are easy to replace. Pull out the old one and push in the new one. And don't forget to connect the slide on connector to the 4th gear sync switch.

OK, I have to ask this. Stupid me and all....I know there's a fuse that the solenoid / TC works off of. Which one is it? Is it in the under dash fuse cluster?

The only fuse in that circuit is the "GAGES" fuse and that is because of the purple wire that goes from pin "A" of the solenoid to pin "A" of the brake switch and pin "B" of the brake switch goes to the "GAGES" fuse.

I'm wondering if the TCC lock-up is the manifestation of an earlier problem. I have an issue that when the headlights are off, and the brake pedal is pushed, the fog lights and instrument lights come on and the warning buzzer sounds.

That problem started when I was tightening my steering column a couple months back, but I couldn't figure it out. I wonder if there's a problem with a short in that brake switch or something more sinister at work here. Any suggestions, O Tricky one?

Thanks for your help. :hail:

The warning buzzer I can understand since that is on the same circuit as the "GAGE" fuse. The foglights and instrument lights are on a completely different circuit unless some one has done a modification to the wiring under the dash.
