Car: 87 Formula
Engine: 350 tpi
Transmission: 700r4
Axle/Gears: Stock 9 bolt
Changing rearend gears

Im lookin at buying a 92 lo3-700r4 rs and was wonderign to change the 273s in the rear do i need to pull the axle out or is it possible to do it with the axle in the car?

It's possible to do it in the car; but it's much faster, easier, cleaner, and overall better, to pull the rear. Kind of like changing a crank with the motor still in the chassis. Yeah, you can do it; but it's about twice as much work as doing it right, and alot more risky.

To drop the rear? All you gotta do is disconnect the LCAs and Panhard bar from the rear end only and disconnect the driveshaft. But i would assume you could do it with the driveshaft still attached, and just have it hanging hella low.

Probably about an hour for that. Now to change the gears I wouldnt know thats the only thing on my car I wont do myself.
