Tranny fluid burn??
Ok, this is going to be a theoretical question since it doesnt have to do with an f-body, or even a GM vehicle...
The tranny is leaking, it's controlled by a vacuum modulator, and it's thought to be the vacuum modulator is leaking, can tranny fluid be sucked through the vacuum modulator into the manifold to be burned?
I dont think so, but i'd like to know for sure.
There are no other leaks, the tranny is clean as a whistle. It's not leaking from the front seal or the rear seal and the pan isnt leaking either.
Thanks.

Yes it is possible and has happened to alot of people before. Usually, the diaphragm will rip causing the engine vacuum to suck the fluid out. One of the guys that I work with used to work for a Corvette shop and the customer was complaining about weird shifting. When he pulled the car into the shop, the diaphragm ripped, sucked the tranny fluid into the motor and caused it to stop. Then, there was no vacuum to operate the brakes and he hit the wall with the car.

wow, i guess i stand corrected then. So the obvious answer is to replace the vacuum modulator then?

I would just to be on the safe side. The story that I told was a worst case scenario and probably wouldn't happen to your car. I think that some of these new shift kits come with stuff to do away with the governer/modulator for more accurate and precise shifts. I could be wrong though!

hell no, this aint my car, this is a Ford Areostar minivan lol! My baby runs a 700r4 with a tv cable, that vacuum modulated crap is for the birds and fords. I cant believe ford still sued vacuum modulators in 93. GM stopped in 86-87?

i beg to differ on that statement, the problem with TV cable is people not setting them up correctly.

I dont need to check it out. You can think what you will, but ask the poeple that were around before the TV cable system. The vacuum modulater was a perfect system that had fewer flaws. It performed perfectly, and was killed off for a worse system. You are right about one thing though, people do not set them properly, that is one of the flaws in the system. When two clicks of a cable can toast your trans, that is no good. Do some more research and see what you come up with.
