changing from 700r4 to th400?????

I have an 86 z-28 with a 305 and a 700r4 and I am about to put a sbc 406 with a th400 with a 2400 rpm stall in its place. I am wondering if the th400 will bolt right up with the exception of the drive shaft lenth or if there is a lotof stuff I have to change???

You will have to find a way to mount the torque arm.. You'll also need a different crossmember, iirc. Might be able to kill two birds with one stone there.

depends on what you want. If you buy the kit I linked to, you can install your th400, and use your stock driveshaft, torque arm, and crossmember. Stock speedo equipment too. Nothing has to change, but the trans itself. Its a real sweet kit.

If you search there are a couple of other people on here using it. You should seriously consider the link that I posted though, because it is becoming steadily more popular for a reason. Takes all of the headache out of the swap. Keeps everything the same as stock.

I know it would be the best way to go, but iam looking for the cheapest right now because Ihave already broke the bank on the sbc 406 and the th400 with the 2400 stall. Plus I have my 700r4 sold as soon as Iget it out and the guy is not gonna want it with out the tail shaft on it, lol

I put a tpi 406 and a th350 in my 85 IROC and I used the kit from jeg's, I thought it was an easy swap but know I am looking for a driveshaft from a th2004r.

speedy did you use the B&M or the Hurst kit? and was your th350 a short or long shaft? from waht I understand the long shaft th350 is the same lenth as the 700r4 so you can use the stock drive shaft.
