z-bar
I was wondering if I could take my old z-bar to a machine shop or someone that does welding and stuff like that and have one made and have it work like the orignal one? I don't really feel like spending $160 on a couple peices of steal and pipe that has been bent into a z. i will go to gm if I with out a doubt have to. BUt what do you guys think? thanks

I would start out with anew piece and reinforce that one, that way you're guarented there's no twists in the bar. You can also replace all of those rods with heim joint ends. In my car I pulled the pedal and had to reweld that hole and redrill it, it was all wanged out as well.

I went and bought a new one and installed it and it works great with no problems. Except for one thing, it won't pass e-check.
At least the clutch works now though.

I'm getting a blank here, but what is a "Z Bar?" I'm guessing something clutch related. I don't ever remember dealing with anything called that on any clutches I have worked on, although they have all been hydraulic.

My '83 has the Z-bar type too, and every bushing is loose but at least it works - for now.
In order to upgrade, I'd have to find a newer V-6/8 bellhousing, along with the other parts -which ain't easy around my area...

I think the official name is "clutch cross shaft", at least it is for Ford products. It runs across from the frame rail to the block and connects (with linkage) the pedal to the throw out bearing. They are notorious for wearing out and were replaced in 84 with the hydraulic unit.
