i broke another 9-bolt? yes i did......

so i let out a really stinky burnout on the way back from lunch with the g/f today(she looks so cute when i hit the throttle, she looks like shes going over a big drop on a rollercoaster), and the car did a "clunk!" and all the sudden straightened out. it then ripped the passanger side tire up. i went back to the spot later and i had two nice sideways lines and then one stoped and the right side went for twenty some odd feet before it feathered away. i dont know why i seem to kill 9 bolt carriers, but they just dont last. now i got an open rear end. i guess its now an unlimited slip?
its now time to put my 10 bolt back togather. does anyone have a good(zexel would be nice, or a locking style) carrier for sale? i have 2 sets of gears, and i think im gonna go to 3.73's. they should do nicely with the th350.

I'd shy away from 3.73s and a TH350 if you do any driving at speeds above 50 miles an hour.

I had a TH350 in my car with 3.42s and cruising on the highway was about 4000rpm.

I have not had any luck with the 9 bolt either. Even when fresh the posi is still lame IMO. Some guys have been welding the cones into the carrier solid making it solid no slip like a spool and had some luck but I also snapped a pinion gear in a 9 bolt. They are better than a 10 bolt but not by much. Parts are WAYYY too pricey also.

you got to take that posi apart and die grind the cones and carrier where they bottom out.youll see it ,i did it to mine and added a good size shim to the springs.put it back together loose keep sliding the axels in and out to keep everthing straight. mine hasnt left a one whell peel since and doesnt squell around sharp coners

i have already had 3.42's and i was crusing 3500rpm at 75mph! with a 3.73 gear i should do about 65mph at 3200-3300rpm. i dont really drive far on the freeway anyway. i just need a 10 bolt carrier.

yepper, you can definately "alter" the carrier where the cones bottom... and then shim it until your back in spec. there's a great article around here somewhere, and many of us have done it..

and I sell the shims to do it.
