Bad clunk when I get on the gas

Ive seen stuff about the rear clunkin around every rotation but mine isnt like that. If I stomp or just get on it enough to get out in traffic it feels likethe rear is going to rip out of the car. I was thinking the universles mite be the problem, but it seems to be a little to bad to be them. Is my rear going to burst into flames? Ive been plannnin on buying an axle with new gears anyway, 373 or 411. Any input on the rear or my axle search would be greatly apprieciated

Trans mount or torque arm mount. Get under the car and try to lift the transmission tail to see if the mount seperates. Also give a tug on the torque arm to see if it moves around. Of course, make sure the car is secure before doing any of that.

So the clunk isnt rear related ? It could be a simple group of lose bolts?

Ok, assuming it is one of the trans mounts, how would I check/repair that?

To quote myself (we do this thread every few weeks around here):
Checking the trans mount is easy.

1. Get the car off the ground. I like Rhino Ramps for this kind of work.

2. Remove the single nut holding the trans mount to the crossmember.

3. Place your jack under the transmission pan.

4. Using a large block of wood to distruibute the force of the jack, gently start lifting the transmission.

5. Once the weight is off of the trans mount, you should be able to see large cracks in the rubber bushing. Pieces of this may fall out. If this is not the case, you are now two bolts and 5 minutes away from a full R&R of the transmission mount anyway, so:

6. Get off your cheap, lazy butt and call Summit for the ES poly mount.

7. Install new poly mount, lower car and enjoy new, tighter feeling driveline.

Is it ok to NOT use a torque wrench on the tranny mount bolts?
Don't have one.

If there's an AutoZone near you, they should have one you can rent. They only charge a refundable deposit for it, too.
