How To Tell If I Have A Shiftkit?
My car shifts pretty firm, way firmer than stock, but I never got to ask the previous owner on what exactly he did to the tranny....is there a way to tell what exactly is done to the trans or no???

I have the same question. I know this isn't the trans that was originally in the car. Shifts seem a lot firmer than any other f-body I've driven.
What exactly do I need to look for to know if the trans has been modified?

Well its not a 100% test since some transmissions do this anyway but none that I have had or driven.
Put the car in 1st gear and take off, drive to 5k and see if it shifts out of first to 2nd still locked in 1st. All shift kits remove the MTV spring and this prevents the trans from shifting to 2nd when locked in first. Some members of this board claim thier stock trans wont shift but I havent seen it with a stock 700R4.

Ok dudes I can leave it in 1st all day long, spin it up till 5k and let off the gas and it'll stay in 1st. I got the car TOTALLY STOCK from a little australian grandmother. So there's no way it's got a kit. I mean the shifts are firm, but leaves a bit to be desired in terms of lightning quick shifts. The only time it DID shift outta first, I was driving down a super steep, slow, winding hill. I wanted to keep it in first for the added control, but i gassed it on a streight-away and it went to 2nd. I pretty much always used to shift it manually......Maybe inprovments were made in the later years to the 700r4? I've wondered about this for a long time. Maybe TKO or someone can shed some light on this.....

I tend to believe that if you bark 2nd gear and your TV cable is adjusted stock then you probably have a valve body kit.
Mines done it since I bought it, and this isn't my first thirdgen.. My transmission also makes the 2-3 shift pretty quick, which is another good sign.
The 700r4 doesn't really shift that bad stock either though.

LIke I said its not 100% proof positive of a shift kit. Nice quick shifts with a little chirp can come from a bone stock transmission if the TV cable is adjusted a tad the tight side.
