different T-5, what will work?
i can get ahold of a low mileage T-5 out of a 98 2wd S-10 for dirt cheap. i was wondering if anyone knows or knows where i can find the gearing of the trans to see if its similar to mine.
or does anyone know if this trans will even bolt into my car. im guessing ill have to swap the tailshafts and use my bellhousing, but everything else SHOULD be the same, right?

The trans won't work. Don't even bother. It doesn't have a TA mount for one thing. Get an F-car specific '89 up T5.

i found another one, not sure what year, but its definetly a v6 T5. it doesnt have the cable driven speedo hook up, so its newer than mine. isnt the 93 and up a 26 spline? i know mines a 14 spline. when talking about the number of splines, is that on the input or output shaft? i would assume its the output to the driveshaft right?

No, it's the input shaft. The output is always 27 spline. The different input means you need to use a different clutch disc. You can make a V6 T5 work on a V8, but personally I wouldn't. Just wait, there'll be a tyrade from someone saying how he's got a v6 T5 behind a 406 or 383 and it's never broken. Good for him. I just wouldn't take the risk personally.

I wemt through this in my 83. The original Z trans locked up so bad that when the guy stopped at a toll booth, the car had to be towed out with the rear tires locked. The OD had just exploded. (I think the clip that holds the speedo gear made a couple of laps in the OD) Anyway, the guy replaced it with one out of an S10, it ran ok until it broke. I was going to rebuild that one, that's when I discoverred there were huge differences. The S10 T5 used an automatic clutch type material instead of brass. The Z28 T5 used a mainshaft that was grooved for better oiling and all brass slider/assembly. As I recall, I think the mainshaft was an even bigger diameter, there were some differences in the case as well. Fortunately I still had the Z trans so I gave that up for a core and just got a rebuilt one.

Looks like we lost some posts when the site went down.
Just to clarify: You can't use an S-10 trans in a 3rd gen Camaro. The trans has no TA mounting pad, isn't tilted for proper shifter placement, and just plain won't work.
Also, the fiber blocker ring synchros are much better than the brass ones they replaced (these are the black synchro rings). These contribute to smoother, faster shifting, and were one of the changes made between NWC & WC T5s. These synchros were also used in part to allow the use of ATF instead of conventional gear oil.
