How much can a 700r4 take?

Just curious, how much HP/TQ a 700r4 can take before it will go? I know everyone's trans is different, but maybe how much from YOUR personal experiences is or did yours take, or is taking now? Just wondering, cause I'dd like mine to last forever . Don't want to spend for any rebuilds, I'dd like it to last.
By the way, I've got an SLP shift kit & TQ convertor, and a heavy B&M trans cooler. Hope these aid in the longevity.
Any personal experiences?

My oem trans went 235k before I killed it. Quickest et ran at that time was 11.70 @ 123. 1.59 60' And it had over 3k dragstrip runs on it. I was (and still am ) very fortunate. The trans in the car now is the same trans, with same shift kit and stock torque converter and it has gone 10.96 . Best mph was 129.9 and best 60' was 1.505. Still runs strong after 8 years. If I break this one I will beef it up a little.

This is very good to hear. My car couldn't run those times in it's dreams, and I don't drive it hard to begin with. With luck and care, hopefully I'll get many more reliable years out of it.

700R4 strength

The issue of overall 700R4 strength is still subject to debate, but it seems that as time has gone on, the aftermarket has developed more and more good parts to beef it up. Back in '95 I had my '89 305's trans. heavily beefed-up by Art Carr Transmissions. At the time, they were based in California just a few miles from my home, and I was convinced I needed some added "strength" to prevent an untimely death from the Vortech I had just added. I don't want to jinx my car, but it has performed very well since then and I hope that it always will. The good thing is that eliminating the lock-up TQ is no longer the "necessity" that it was once perceived to be. You may want to contact transmissionhead.com (I think that's the site) and read everything you can. It's interesting.

that's a serious blow-up

Mr. Walch: That is one serious kaboom! I hope no one was hurt when it went. I hope I never experience anything like that.

I was in the neighborhood of 450-475 HP and 600 ft lbs of torque.... With that old motor combo the trans lasted all the way to the gas station and half way back and I lost second...this was my last 355 vortech blower setup
'

Before that I had about 350hp and ~500tq..this was my really old 350 / paxton blower setup.it ran at that level for a few years launching on drag radials and driving long distances...I feel had I kept the engine at that power level it would have been fine for a while...

Now with the turbo and the 406 I would not even mess with the th700r4...lol.

the 700r4 can be built to take some serious abuse. my motor is making about 350+ftlbs and i am on my second stock 700r4. i drive the crap outta my car (that's why i built it!). though this one has lasted quite a while. i am replacing it with one with better clutches and a shift kit when i put my new ATI converter in. the tranny i am getting is supposed to handle 450ftlbs. i hope so! with the new converter, i hope to put down some seriously better 60's cause right now, my best 60' is 2.02. get some drag radials and i should be in the 1.7 range with new converter.

I got a guy that is building mine to "stage 3" specs, all the HD internals, and he tells me "800hp/715lb/ft"....I don't hit 500lb/ft so I think I'll be OK
