T-5 replacement
This is my first post and I have a 91 RS with 305TBI and t-5. It has the z28 spoiler and the SS hood with a set of painted c5's on the way form ebay. The tranny is going out I think. Easily goes into third gear but wants to pop out very easily. Has minor trouble going into 4th and a buttload of trouble coming out of 4th(makes grinding noise). all other gears work fine and no vibration to speak of in any of the gears. Does it sound like tranny to you guys?
I am figuring it is done and it should be easier to just buy a t-5 and swap. Is there a difference in the v8 and v6 5 speed? is there any other GM vehicles that use the t-5 in our cars, so if I call the local knuckleheads(junkyard) I can give them as much info as possible in trying to find a replacement.
thanks for any help.

Sounds like the tranny to me. Specifically a bent shift fork. I'd have it rebuilt. At least you know what you have.
Others will suggest putting in another but that will be a mystery tranny. You won't know what you have.
Your choice.

The T5 in our cars is different from the M*stang and Jeep ones, I know that. I don't think it was used in any other GM cars either!
I have heard that the V6 one is much weaker or has different gears, but I'm not sure on that.

Don - if you swap the tranny, make sure you get a World Class version of the T-5 for a V8. That's what you've got now in your 91. If you get an older non-WC version, or one for a V6, it won't be as strong as the one you have now.
And you have to use a GM one (not F0RD)
PM or e-mail me if you need some help finding another WC tranny. I'm in Plano, where are you?
