hey i was wondering if anyone could help me with some rear gear stuff.
right now i have a carb 305, 700R, and 2.73 gears. Needless to say i can probably beat my car on foot in a 60 foot race.
i need to kno what is involved in swiching gears, which is something i kno nothing about. do you have to change the whole axle or can you just throw new gears in the existing one. Also, how do you get the spedo back on, ive heard of it being easy on a standard shift tranny, but im not sure about autos.
Finally, whats a good car to look for in the 'yard that i can steal gears from, im looking for like 3.23s or so...ive heard blazers but i really want posi lock

you can swap gears or the entire rear. if you've never done gears go for the rear swap. any 3rd or 4th gen rear will be a direct bolt in, the 4th area a few inches wider.

 

if u havent swapped rear end gears before then i would not attempt it i would spend the extra cash to have some one with some know how do the job or just help u install them... my car was down for 2 days because i didnt have the correct bearing splitter for the pinion gear but i did get the mesh correct with out all the exspensive tools that every one else has... no gear whine at all
