Transmission Question-correct engine this time!

I have an '84 Camaro. It has the 231 V6 engine with the 700R4 transmission. Currently, reverse is out of the tranny. I was wondering if there are any other tranmissions other than the 700R4 that are compatible with my engine. Also, will a 700R4 off a V8 fit my V6?

OK guys, here's the deal.

Ater reading all the posts to my original question, I did a little investigating. It does have the 2.8 V6 in it, I was totally misinformed by the father of the guy I bought it from. He's an idiot, and I should have know he was wrong as he has been in everything else he has said about cars. And get this, the guy has a college degree in automotives. Anyhow, sorry about the mix up. I am a young woman that knows a little bit about cars and trying to learn as much as I can, I want to fix up my Camaro and the '62 Chevy Impala my father recently gave me, so I appreciate all the help! (and thanks for clearing me up!)

A V8 700R4 won't fit your V6, the bellhousing bolt pattern is different.

I figured the bolt pattern wouldn't match from the v8, thanks for your help!

I think the 200-4R only has the Buick V6 pattern, not the Chevy.

Isn't that a 3.8?

Which means it's a 90 degree block. I think 4.3's match the v8 bolt pattern. I'm not sure about the 3.8 though.... anyone else?

231cid is a 3.8L with the Buick bolt pattern.It's 60 degree, not 90.

It's morely likely that he has the original 2.8L.

All 200-4R's have the dual bellhousing pattern... They will fit both BOP and Chevy..

Not all 200-4Rs have both patterns, some only have the BOP pattern. Even still the Chevy pattern they have is the V8 pattern, not the V6.

In 1984 the Buick V6 was 90 degree for certain. I was just questioning the installation of one originally (other than the 89 TTA)

Bah, of course it's 90 degrees, I don't know where my head was at. None of them were used originally though, except on TTAs.
