26 spline axles. Late 1989 models "might" have 28 spline. 1990 and newer have 28 spline.
The don't make a 26 spline mini spool but you can put 90-92 28 spline axles into any third gen housing to use with a 28 spline carrier. Aftermarket 28 spline axles are much better and are only $125-$150 each.

actually, it's the 26 splines they make, not the 28, but i wouldn't suggest running a mini-spool on the street. it's gonna kill those axles. if you have to run something that locks, i might look at the powertrax lockers. i know, it's 4x the amount, but well worth not being stranded on the corner with broken axles. a posi unit would be your best bet, and u can usually find them relatively cheap on the web.

I stand corrected. When I picked up some 28 spline axles, I was disappointed to find out they didn't make a 28 spline mini spool.

so i have 26 spline axles, is that okay for a mini spool, if the car is NOT going to be street driven?
i live an hour and 45 minutes away from the nearest track so it will definately be trailered to and from...
also should i get C-clip eliminators like they reccommend and where do i find them?

they are recommended for dirt racing only, if you want to, run it, but it's gonna brake axles. they are NOT recommended for Drag Racing.

I've never seen c-clip eliminators for the 7.5" 10 bolt. The diff is just not a performance item for them them to make performance parts for.

they got'm .... and are they ever a pain in the ***/$$$$ for so little. I just mean that .....why spend it on the 10 bolt. Screw the c-clip eliminators. Just get rear disc brakes ...that'll keep ya from spitting out the axle .

Rules say "axle retention device" In case the c-clip breaks, something needs to hold the axle in. Rear disk brakes will do the job because the caliper or mount fits over the rotor and holds the axle in case the c-clip breaks.

That's what I just said. My old 9 bolt had disk brakes and tech never bothered me.
