Anyone using AN line as tranny cooler line? I figure it'll be much easier to work with. What size are you using? I was thinking about adapting from NPT to -6 and running that right to my cooler. If any of you have done it, how do you like it?

Using a flexible line makes installing and removing the transmission a whole lot easier. The ports in the rad are 5/16-IF, not NPT. The transmission case itself is tapped with some size of NPT, but then has 5/16-IF adapters screwed in.
I made my lines out of -6 hose and used Aeroquip FCM-2111 adapters in the transmission and cooler ports.

so four 5/16 IF male to -6 male and some line. I want to do it while the drivetrain is out of the car b/c it's easier than bending hard line and is more reliable than rubber line. Thx.

tranney case is either 1/8" or 5/16" NPT, cant' remember right now. Do yourself a favor, get an after market tranney cooler and bypass the radiator all together.
I'm running -8 out of my tranny in BTE's largest cooler that they offer that comes with -6 female ends so it's all AN fittings. NO leaks ever and easy to install/disassemble. typically run about 120* on the street and yesterday after back to back round robin I got all of 180* in the tranny.

The cooler in the radiator has been bypassed forever. I've got a perma-cool with a 700CFM fan on it hooked to a manual switch to keep the temp consistent in the staging lanes.

I made flare unions about 12" below the tranny so you can easily disconnect them for tranny removal. That works great if you have a flaring tool.
I also used rubber lines for the tranny cooler - nice and easy to hook up compared to bending steel lines.

Installed the largest B&M cooler I could fit in front of the rad. Used Russell -6 braided line. One thing that worked really well, (that I think is worth mentioning.) Use 90* fittings on the cooler itself, but at the transmission, I used two 45* "swivel" ends. It seems to put the lines in the best spot, and prevents binding the lines in any certain position. With the swivels the lines go where they fit best.

You guys mentioned bypassing the stock cooler, when I bought my aftermarket cooler the instructions said to use the stock cooler inline with the aftermarket one for additional cooling. Did anyone else do that?
