2.73 to 3.73 gear change question
Tell me EVERYTHING to do..or better yet everything I need, as the garage will be doing it.
I will be keeping the orginal Axle, and it is a 1991 Z.
I was looking at the kits on
http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerc...25&prmenbr=361
And not even sure of which one to order, and is there anything else needed?
Thanks in advance sooo much!!

well...stuff you'll need will be the 3.73 ring gear and pinion, but you're going to want more, like probably new bearings, oil, gaskets/seals and so on. and a feeler gauge will come in handy when measuring the backlash. i think GM had their's inbetween .08 and .1 right? does that sound right guys? And those packages on JEGs there are for a 7.5" so you better hope that's what you got, and it's 99% probably not, it's probably a 7.625". and i hope you aren't wanting a posi also, cause i remember not too long ago i was asking stupid questions about that
. Anyways, in short,
Needed parts:
-3.73 gears
-preferably new small parts (bearings, oil, those things)
-feeler gauge
-a good instruction guide
-and maybe a machanic that knows what he's doing
Hope this helps. and for everyone else, did i miss anything?

you'll need th gear to fit your carrier, or a shim if that applies, an install kit, precission tools, common hand tools, press, bearing seperator and a manual. learning how to use the search function would help too

Good Good, i'm learning, i'm learning
So correct me if I am wrong...I will order GM 7.5'' 10-Bolt Ring and Pinion with Install Kit, 3.73 Ratio, 41-11 Teeth, Fits 3.08 and numerically lower (2-Series) carrier that includes a install kit.

Is there anything else? I have heard about some kit to re-adjust your speedo?
Thanks again!

if you are replacing the open with an auburn or eaton posi the carrier count doesnt matter right? just axle spline count.
