Viper T56 VSS wires ?

Viper T56 VSS wires ?
I am swapping in a Viper T56 behind my LS1..It has a F-Body input swapped in already. I need to know the Vipers VSS wiring so that I can connect it to the LS1 PCM
The GM VSS only has two wires. the Dodge Viper T56 VSS has Three wire and are NOT color coded. How smart is that !
I can only assume at this time that one is ground, Postive and pulse output to the PCM. But which one is which ?
Man... I tell you, never try going to a Viper Forum and ask Technical information, they never answer or reply !.. I guess they pay the dealers to do all of there work and know nothing about doing there own work.. !
I am considering trying to swap a GM VSS sensor in if I can verify that they are simular in physical size or I can modify it to work. (I know the Reluctor ring is 10 vs 17, the PCM can be adjusted ok for that).

what year is your trans from? I have a 97 Viper factory service manual and the pinout for the VSS is as follows
1. 5V Supply
2. Sensor Ground
3. Vehicle Speed Sensor Signal
I can dig up a pinout as well if you need it, but the terminals should be numbered on the sensor harness. or dont you have it?

Thanks.. I was finally able to get someone on the Viper Forums to give me the information on the wiring.
the Viper VSS and the GM VSS are two different types of sensor and I am not sure if the Viper VSS can be connected into the GM/LS1 PCM and use it signal.???
If anyone has done so or know what it takes for the LS1 PCM to accept the Viper VSS signal.. it would help. else I am looking to see if the F-Body will fit or can be modified to work.
No dealers in the area has one in stock and I am not willing to pay for something that will not work. The usual Car Parts store, Kragens, Autozone, etc has it as special order only.

I too faced this problem - but i however was not connecting it to an ecm, just a speedometer... i would assume that you will need to convert the signal - the viper sensor is a VDO hall effect sensor which puts out something like 16k ppm... The GM one is just a high speed (ppm) sensor...

Not sure what all of that means or how I the signals can be used or converted.. I have compared the two sensors.. the GM one is larger in size. Not sure if it can be turned down to fit the Viper opening.
I know that the Viper one get a positive voltage and I wonder if I connected the signal and neg as a GM one would and give a power supply off of the PCM to feed the Postive line on the Viper Sensor would the PCM understand it ?

The simple answer is no, the ls1 pcm will NOT properly comprehend the signal from the viper sensor...
As for supplying the power, i went to radio shack, picked up a small power convertor (3 legged chip more or less) and used switch power from the window switches. Anyways, there is a box that dakota digital uses called a "sgi-5" box... this takes the faster signal from the viper sensor and down converts it to just about any signal you need.

Good news.. for a Manual Trans, the PCM doesn't use the input for anything other than to output for the Speedo.. so, Engine management is good. !
I can use a Dakota SGI-5 converter box to drive my speedo since I will be going with Aftermarket gauges..

I was hoping to get some feedback last week but after a few days of research here is the info.
Those with a built T-56 like my Transzilla from Rockland Gear will have a Viper tailhousing. The VSS will be a 3-pronged pigtail that will cost aprrox. $79 from Dodge. You will still not know which prong does what as they are not color coded.
I contacted Autometer and their tech guy is sending me (free) the female plug that has the 5V power supply,ground, and VSS output. Follow the Hall-Effect directions on the Autometer speedo and .
BTW, Rockland Gear's tech guy said they will now change the Viper pigtail to GM 2 prong.
