he claims to have a 6 speed 700r4

I am really sure this is bs, but please check out this thread I have been replying too. If I am wrong, that is fine, but I have never heard of a 700r4 with 6 gears. I don't think anyone else has either.

Even with an underdrive/overdrive unit, it wouldn't be 6 speed either.

it reminds me of a guy here with a 307 olds, who swore up and down he had a 10 speed "police car" transmission. I hope I am not wrong though. I would feel kinda dumb.

 

there is a thing called Gear Vendors who sell add on overdrive packages to the 700r4 and th350/400 trannys. it is basically a extra unit with 4 more gears or 3 more gears for the th350/400. so in fact you can have 8 speed transmission or 6 speed transmission.

but a 6 speed 700r4, i have not heard of them unless gear vendors or someone else offers 2 more gears

 

yeah, doesn't gear vendors offer their underdrive/overdrive tailshaft replacement. That would not add up to 6 though.


He says he has counted the shifts, but I am still a disbeliever.

 

oh, counted the shifts? hmmm maybe its not in good condition or something.... and he must be going pretty damn fast to hit 6 gears and count the shifts. i do believe 3rd gear maxed out in my 2.77 rear end will be 120mph or near that. 4th is 150mph. 5 6 probly wouldnt pull beyond that

 

I'de bet he is counting the converter lock-up as a shift.
