posi problems

i put a posi rear end tonight an its not working at all any more. i took it out and did a burnout they both spun but the right was way darker than the left. so i tried again and now no left tire at all. so my question is do you think changing the fluid to something different would help?

I'm going to take a wild guess and say that you put on a 9 bolt. Sounds to me that the posi is slippingand is most likely the cause of worn cones.

10-bolt posi units use clutches and plates with preload springs. Yours sounds like it's spent. You can get the plates, clutches, and springs for about $80 shipped to your door. Try www.ringpinion.com Randy's has all of the stuff to rebuild the unit in stock.

That being said, if you are trying to lay down serious power the stock unit isn't going to last. Pony up to an Eaton or Auburn. I think Eaton has one now with an amazing warranty. It's like if you burn it up they will send you a brand new unit. Not rebuild yours, not send you a rebuilt one, brand new. That's a damn good deal for $350.
