How do you install axle shafts in a moser 12 bolt????

I take the chrome cover off. And can see the posi. There are 2 1/2" alen bolts on the either side, holding the caps. Do I need to loosen these bolts to eas the axle shaft push into the posi???

Or do I just shove the shafts in. I tried both methods, and got them in both just as far. The shafts did not touch the cross pin. Is that OK? i am 99% sure the shafts got deep enough because the bearing were pushed in as far on the shafts as they would go, and they were up against the housing ends.

Anyways, I guess after all that rambling.... I really just wanna know if I shove the shafts in and thats it?

Oh and does anyone know what the caps are supposed to be toqued to????

Thanks guys. I would have thought this damn thing to come with instructions.....

Take out the crosspin with probly a 5/16 or 8mm. Slide that out and then push your axles in.. That should set your streight Make you you put the c-clips in place, then pull the axles back out. Then put the cross pin in. Now if its a c-clip elimniator rear end.... Thats a different story...

It is. I have talked to other guys and since looked up stuff. No one have taken out the cross pin. For this rear, you juust push the axles in the posi and bolt up the ends. Thats it. I go this from a guy that has been running it for over 6K miles and at the drag. with 0 problems. I trust what he says.

Thanks for the post though.

That rear should have no CClips. The allen bolts on either side are what hold the carrier in place, leave them alone. The axles are held in by backing plates on the outward ends of the axle tubes. You need to press the bearings, seals, and backing plates onto the axle, slide the axle into the housing, line up the bolt holes on the backing plate to the holes on the axle tube, then tap (with a rubber hammer) the axle the rest of the way into the housing. Be careful you don't roll the seal though and it's a good idea to put a film of RTV around it to help it seal. Don't forget to tighten the 4 bolts.
