Transmission question

hey i have a 89 rs camaro with a 2.8 v6 with a 700r4.
i just got the tranny rebuilt and it is shifting from first to second at 6200-6300 rpms, and im kinda getting scared.
but i was wondering how i can change the shift rpm and what computer i need to buy so i can do so. any help would be appreciated.

Transmission: ProBuilt S/S 700-R4 & ACT 9" Stall
Axle/Gears: 10 bolt 3.23
Make sure your cable is adjusted correctly. That will affect the firmness and RPM range of the shifts. There is an article in the Tech Section over how to do that.

Our 700-r4s are not computer controlled like many people think. They use governor weights for that.

Jegs or Summit should carry a B&M governor weight kit or you could probably call your local Transmission Service Place and ask them about it.

so there is no way to adjust what rpm the tranny shifts at.
that sucks.

is there any other way to get harder take-offs?

if the throttle valve cable is adjusted wrong it will goof up your shift points and cook a tranny pretty fast, if its adjusted properly your going to need to rip it apart and install a new governer kit.

whats the best way to check it, and adjust it if needed i have a haynes manual. but it doesent say a whole lot about it,or how to adjust it.

thanks a lot, it needed to go one more click.
it's adjusted right and its shifting a whole lot better now, but i think i may put a shift kit in it. what would be the best kit for it?

You want the TV cable to be tight at WOT. To change the WOT shift points, you will need to change the governor inner weights. You can use the B&M governor weight & spring kit, to solve this.
