Performance built 700R4?

Does anyone know where I could buy a built up 700R4 that can hold up to 600 hp for a reasonable price? My last trans lasted 13,000 miles and I want to get a good trans that can hold more horsepower for in the future. Thanks

what do you consider a reasonable price? i've heard of raptor transmissions but they are expensive and i don't know about reliability as i have never dealt with one first hand. i know of a couple of places that could do rebuilds but i don't know any near you. they might have some already built but i think it is a rebuild thing.

Well a 2,000 dollar trans would be out of the question. Im looking for something between 1,000 and 1,500.

yeah, i thought they were rather pricey also.

vedder's transmission: (812) 829-4754

this is the closest place to you that i know of that could give you what you want. i have no idea on price. give him a call. tom is a good guy. if you can find somewhere else that is cool. he is just the closest that i know of. there is a place in greenville,ky that does performance transmissions called arnett's garage and racing: (270) 338-6325. again, i don't know what kind of price you will get, but they should be able to help you. try vedder's first though since he is closest to you. keep in mind that any 700 built to handle that much hp is gonna cost, it's just that, like you, $2000 is a lot of money.

Basically with stuff like this you get what you pay for. To build a reliable 700R4 takes a lot of time, and that translates into cost. Sure, you can just slap it together with better parts and it'll be stronger than stock, but it won't last as long as a properly built trans that's been blueprinted.

If you just need to get your truck back on the road a Goodwrench 350 is a great way to go. Trying to take that same motor and stick it in a Camaro and spray it trying to make 550 horses is going to result in dissappointment if not disaster. It's the same deal with transmissions and rearends. I wish you luck, but finding a properly built 700R4 capable of withstanding 600HP reliably for less than $1,800 without a converter is going to be tough.

Save up a few more dollars and get Dana's (Pro Built) trans:

He's one of the best out there.

Definately. The best around IMO. I've got his internal package in my trans and couldn't be happier with it. I built the trans using his kit, and with a fair amount of his input.

Thanks for the help guys. I might go with the trans in the link above whenever I decide to swap the trans out over break. I knew it was a matter of time before my $400 700R4 would kill itself. Thanks

I will vote for going with Pro-Built or Jimmy's Transmission in Mundelain IL.

Both have worked on OD trans from day one and both have very good knwledge and have even helped develop a lot of the hard parts for making them live in the 500hp+ range.

Cheap and 600hp doesnt go together.

700 and 200 OD trans' can be built to take alot of abuse. ITs once u get to the 10's and quicker times with big hp that you need to spend some money to upgrade the hard parts to the billet and the heatreated variety to keep them alive..

Adds alot to the overall cost

later

I will second everything said about Pro-Built as well. You talk to Dana for ten minutes and you just say to yourself "he has forgotten more about 700R4s than I will ever know". That's why I was so confident with his kit, knowing that those years of knowledge and collaboration with Trans-Go, Borg/Warner, and the like led to the development of many of the parts that he is selling you in his kit.

I'm sure if Jimmy's is the same kind of operation you can't go wrong with them either.

A lot of old school guys are scared or ignorant when it comes to the 700R4s and 2004Rs. Hey reality check caveman, gas is $350 a gallon here! The days when you didn't need overdrive are gone.

Yeah, the tax is killer when you live at the north pole. I keep trying to convince the reindeer union that it would be okay to fly more than once a year, but you know how they are...

Just looked at the website in the link above. First thing I thought was that it's too good to be true, but it seems like you all have had good success, good to know.
