700R4 to 4L60E -> What year?

I've found anything from 87 to 92. What year did GM stop putting the 700R4 in and insted used the 4L60E? Is there any easy way you can tell the diffrence b/w the two? Thanks!

The 4L60E was first available in F-bodies in 1993, other applications had it earlier.

i,ve never heard of a 4l60e that was earlier than "93. the 700 has connector on the drivers side. the 4l60e has connector on the passenger side. 4l60e has no tv cable either.

GM's last year of the 700R4 was 92. The 4L60 was put in 93. The 4L60 is basically a 700R4. The 4L60E was put in 94.

700R4 and 4l60 are the same thing, GM switched to the 4l60 name in the late 80s early 90s. a 4l60e is the electronic controlled version and was put in place in the early 90s

Edit: damn bat got to it first

4l60 is the same thing as 700r4.
4l60E is the trans used in all 94 and later f-body's and corvettes.
93 f-body's had teh cable operated 700r4/4l60

All the 4L60E's that I've seen had "4L60E" stamped in the casing on the side

93' - 4l60E - first year available in all rwd applications (ie. truck, passenger vehicle, except f-body) also the very last year for a 4l60/700R4.

94' - 4L60E available in all rwd applications (ie. truck, passenger, vehicle, & f-body) 4L60/700R4 no longer in production.
