bad shifting
i put a tranny out of a 89 rs in my 86 iroc and when i take off in the morning the car will run up to like 3500 before it shifts and when it shifts it shifts really hard, and after i drive a while the tranny will shift smooth but it shifts early, like at 2000 reguardless of the amount of gas peddal i give it so my car will bog down and if i give it alot of gas my tranny will slip real bad between shifts because it wont run up, i hooked up my tv cable and it still dose it, it sucks because i dont want to run it up manually but i have to right now. Dose the tv cable get adjusted or something

i pressed the d thing in and pushed the wire in as far as it will go but when i pull my carb to wide open it dosent pull the cable far enough to ratchet anything. My car at least responds now it will run up to like 3000 now and sometimes 4000 does my carb not pull the cable out far enough. Because it still shifts to early but it is way better.

if the cable has a lot of miles on it, it may be stretched and not adjusting properly. also, use the gas pedal to adjust it, not the trottle arm at the carb. the throttle arm of teh carb might move further than the gas pedal, especially since it is a retro fit from a later unit.

i had the same thing in my rs and it ran up to 5000 now it wont run up as high same tranny and cable just rs was a tbi and not a carb. I thought when you pressed the cable in and pulled the carb to wot it would ratchet the cable out a little

Axle/Gears: It's a volvo?
what you have described is sort of my problem except it happens to me at higher rpm range.
If I gradually accelerate to 60mph it shifts just fine which leads me to believe that it cant be the tranny...but then again anything can happen. Who knows?

use the gas pedal, not the carb/tbi to adjust it!!! plus, if it is the original cable, it might be stretched which will keep it from adjusting properly.

Tranny problems???
I'm sort of having the same problem with my TA, I just put on a new Edelbrock Performer series carb, and now it seems like it my car won't go past 3000 rpm's. I'm not sure what the hell's going on. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

ok i think everything is good now it will run up really high like almost 5500 and runs up higher the farther i press in the pedal, but sometimes between shifts it will take a little longer and my rpm will go up just for a second, will a shift kit take care of this because my car dosent shift that fast, and my car loses a little everytime it shifts.
