what's a gear ration? they aren't the same, they aren't even close to the same. one fits in a ford and one fits in a chevy but not both.

i obviously meant GEAR RATIO not gear ration. and i know that the mustang wc t-5 doesn't fit into the camaro's . if anyone know anything about transmissions they know what im asking. its just i have a buddy who owns a 87 mustang with a wc t-5 and he beats the crap out of it and i was just wondering if the wc t-5 s that come out of the camaro s were comparable to the mustangs. i m not asking if a can swap a mustang t-5 into camaro because i wasn't planning on it. if anyone has the answers please replay opps i mean reply.

There are number of guys running F@rd T5's in vettes over at corvetteforum.com, just need a 1/2" adaptor plate between the trans and bellhousing, the input shaft for the F T5 is 1/2 longer than the chevy, not what the thread is about but thought I would through the info out there

I thought the gears were rationed a little wider in the ford T-5's.

Are there any parts in common? I was alwasys of the belief that they were the same tranny back in the 80's before the interweb.

Just the case is what I thought. Are the internals the same?

first to admit I don't know s**t about fords

A detailed technical answer would be the best. There are folks that hang out here that know.

Someone put this question to bed once and for all.

being that I have had both types apart several times for full rebuilds. I can say that the biggest differance is the input shaft, input shaft bearing retainer, gear ratios and the tail housing shifter mounting ect. there are a few minor differances but, those are the ones that stick out the most

now by theory the f-body v8 t-5 would handle more power due to the input shaft having a higher spline count but, to be onest you will break other parts first

I think the torque ratings from a mustang w/c T5 and F body w/c T5 are almost identical. The 302 in the mustang has a lot less torque so it isn't killing the T5 as fast

The ratings for the TPI 305's and the SFI 302 at exactly the same... 220hp 300tq or 230hp 300tq.. The Borg Warner WC T-5 with the chevy input shaft and tail can only handle 300ft lbs. of torque, I dont know the the torque rating on the ford.. Ask 25thmustang.. he owns an 89' fox body with a T-5.

From a foxbody guy-----

Its the same as the one in the Camaros (3rd gen) Its rated at 300ft lbs. Thats for the "World Class" T5. They get shredded pretty easily.
