painting transmission?

i pulled my transmission
i have been cleaning it up
and decided to paint it

it wouldnt hurt anything to do this right?
it was oxidized all to hell and i think it would be easier to keep clean if is was just painted the alum color

let me know

if anyone else out there has done this
and has some pictures so i can get an idea of what it would look like please show them to me
id hate to get the paint on and it look like ishhh
thanx

Painting is just fine. If you use aluminum paint it will look like it's freshly cast.

thats what i figured
thanx

i just didnt know if it would be a problem with it retaining more heat with paint on it
or if there would be a problem with oxidation of the alum under the paint

my thinking is that it would prevent it for getting oxidized
am i correct?

ps it looked great on the driveshaft

Oxidization of aluminum isn't really a big deal, it just turns kind of dull. Aluminum paint gets its color from aluminum powder, so it will oxidize the same way over time.

Clear might slow it down if you wanted to go through the trouble. I'd probably just slap some paint on it and forget about it, since it's underneath the car and you can't see much of it besides the pan anyway.

so i dont have to worry about it dulling

or does anyone else think that would look good?

How often are you going to be looking at it that the color is going to make a difference?

Heh, I got yelled at by a transmission shop who was rebuilding a TH400 for me for painting the trans. He said that it would cause it to overheat. That same shop couldn't build a TH400 that would last behind a 305 for more than 2 months. The 3800 dollar trans I bought to replace the junker TH400 was painted black too, so I guess they don't know wtf they're doing either. Paint it

Somewhere there used to be a post on a blue powdercoated t-5, but I can never find it. I've been searching for a while too.
