4th gen driveshafts

I have heard that the 4th gen drive shafts fit our 3rd gen cars. I want an aluminium shaft and was wondering if all the cars(1993-2002) driveshafts will work. V-8 of course. If you have done this mod please respond, if you have an opinion or an educated guess please keep it to yourself please.

Nope...

Not all LS1 f-bodies had them, I think if the car was an auto and had gearing of 3.23 or higher, it had a aluminum driveshaft, any lower gearing on a auto ls1 vehicle was given a steel driveshaft. These are direct bolt ins for our vehicles unless your thirdgen has a th200c (or whatever the early automatic was) or the four speed saginaw.

It doesn't matter if the driveshaft came from a auto or standard, they are the same length. The v6 steel shafts in the fourth gens are also the same length and are direct bolt ins.

The aluminum driveshaft that came in the lt1 93-97 f-bodies was the 1le aluminum driveshaft, it was 2.5" (or 2.75?) in diameter, weighed a little more than the ls1 shaft and lacks the dampener. Still a good upgrade over the stock steel.

All driveshafts in the fourth gen f-bodies are direct bolt-ins no matter the engine or transmission unless of course you have a saginaw or th200c equipped thirdgen.
Did a search, this is what came up

your car looks fat. I do not like the stickers but thats me. I got to say that your spoiler does not fit with the rest of the car. If you like it, I love it but that 4th gen spoiler would set your car off. as far as the driveshaft, I have my car apart right now. I needed to put a new seal on the detent cable mine was leaking and the fuel tank I bought from 1a auto somehow is binding my fuel gauge sending unit. So i figured I'd upgrade the driveshaft while Its all in pieces.

So what the post is saying is that all the driveshafts will fit a 700r4 but the ls1 driveshafts are a bit thicker and lighter.

Thank You

I agree the spoiler needs to be tossed but is this a driveshaft thread or rate the car thread

Oh dont worry, I'm way ahead of ya. I've been wanting a fourth gen spoiler for a long time now. Just waiting for the spring to put it in for all new paint, possibly candy red, gold base, not sure yet. I agree, the stock spoiler doesnt fit in anymore.

As for the driveshaft, I have been looking to upgrade it myself and that is the post where I got my info from so I figured I would pass it along. The 4th gen alum. driveshaft is the best choice because like you said, its larger, lighter, and it also has a vibration dampener on it, so its super smooth.

Thanks for the compliments
