Diesel 700r4?

Diesel 700r4?

I have a question about using a diesel 700r4. I dont have a thirdgen, I actually have a 2nd gen 78 camaro, but my th350 with 160k original miles just blew, and I want to drop an overdrive tranny. I figured id ask the 700r4 experts here. Im looking at 700r4's from chevy diesel trucks because theyre actually pretty cheap, but they say the transmissions also shift at a low rpm ( diesels obviously dont rev to 5,000 daily ). Except for the RPM they shift, are the diesel transmissions any different? Also how do you adjust what RPM these things shift it? Im not even sure if I should go with a 700r4, it was my daily driver before I lost 1st and 2nd gear and I want to make it my daily driver again. It is a 78 camaro with a crappy stock low output 350 with 2.42 gears that makes roughly 240hp. I wanted to rebuild the engine and put in 3.42 gears and shoot for 300+ hp. I dont even know if a junkyard 700r4 can handle that, I just wanted to get it back on the road cheaply for now.

I believe the TV springs and governors are different on the diesels, but there are probably other changes as well.

Meh, so is it worth looking in to for a cheaper price, or shall I just look elsewhere? If its too much work to get it running well on my camaro, I dont think I want it.

im workin with a diesel DX th350C

if i were to ever want an auto overdrive trans i would opt for a 2004r over a 700r4

for some reason the 200 seem to hold up better longer than the 700

in stock form, also the th350's

in my mind the strongest to weakest- in stock form are:

475
400
375
350
2004r
700r4



just in my own experience anyways

the only 700r4 i ever run are oens already in a vehicle i aquire and when it blows up then it usually gets a th350 in place of it

Minor differences, the stall is mucho lower as well as the mentioned governer. If you were to get a diesel 700R4 just swap the converters and governer and it should do fine.

Well picking up a diesel 700r4 was supposed to be cheaper, if I need to grab abother torque converter, this seems to defeat its purpose lol. Oh well, I guess Ill just pull one out of a camaro and be done with it. Any difference between the years? I heard some were stronger than others. Do any camaros even come with a 200r4??

go with an S10 converter.. i hear its 2200 stall and works good.

a good stall converter tho is worth its weight in gold, er money in this case

88+ are ideal. Nope, no 200R4 options
