Bad wheel or hub bearings?

With the car jacked up, I can hold the right rear wheel and pull it out and push it in 1/4-1/2 inch. This is not right. What is the problem? Is it a wheel bearing, hub bearing or what? Basically if I leave it as is, the weight of the car sitting on it, forces the rotor to ride against part of the caliper causing the outer 1/2 inch of rotor to be grinded. I can hear it grind as I drive.

Also I went to Autozone for wheel bearing and the guy asked me what rear I have, something to do with 7-1/2 or 7-3/4. The 7-3/4 was twice as expensive. The guy also said to replace either, I had to go through the rear and not behind the disc.

Please someone set me straight here.

Thanks!!

Being a 91 i would suspect its a 7.625

Count the bolts on the diff cover to be sure though.

Pull the axle and inspect the bearing.

7 1/2" is the 10 bolt, 7 3/4" is the 9 bolt.

That's what I thought he was referring to, but I thought 1989 was the last year for the 9-bolt in Fbodies. I told him 1991. Anyway, now back to my problem, what do you guys think the problem is?

not sure you have a problem, some movement is acceptable.

The bearing does not really control the side to side movement as much as the c-clip does. Like Ede says, there will be some movement.
