Difficulty of extracting dowl pins from block?
How hard is it to get the dowl pins out of the engine block? I have to put some offset dowl pins in to center the bell housing.
I thought I would be able to beat them out the rear but evidently the holes for the dowl pins on my goodwrench block are blind. Ive heard that they can be extracted by using a large set of pliers. Tried using a BF set of channel locks on my old 305 for yucks but all they did was smear the dowl pins into nothing.
Will welding some threaded rod onto them and pulling them out be enough? Or will it take some more extreme measure to get them out?

Ok heres my suggestion, if your not going to re-use the pin this should be fast and painless.
throw a nut and a U shaped piece of metal onto a long bolt, weld the bolt to the dowl pin. tighten the nut and it should pop out.

Thats what I was planning on doing, using an old socket, but I didnt know how tightly they where pressed in. Seemed pretty damn tight considering how much of a fight the ones on the 305 put up. At least it seems like their made of a mild enough steel to be easily worked with.

If you wanted to have some fun heat the whole thing up cherry red with a torch and pour a few drops of Ln2 on the pin. should slide right out then
