Help putting together -6 ss braided lines & connectors

I bought Aeroquip -6 fittings and -06 SS braided lines to replace the rubber lines from my tranny to the cooler.

I can not get the SS line to go inside the fittings!!!!!

The fitting measures 0.50" ID,,, the OD of the SS line is about 0.57 to 0.58"...And I have tape on the OD of the SS line so I have a clean cut from the factory.

This is beginning to pi$$ me off. What is the trick?

An hour ago, I put axle grease inside the fitting and on the SS braided wire, and tried to use a screwdriver to force the SS line inside the fitting. It did not work!!!!!!!!!!!!!

-6 lines are the devil. personally i wrap electrical tape around them very tightly and leave the end about 4 inches off. then pull the loose end through the fitting and then shove and twise back and forth the line into the fitting and pull out the excess electrical tape. cussing may be needed/warranted as assembly commences.

I wrap the tape like stated above & then lightly bevel the cut wire end on a grinding wheel.

Put a hose clamp on the end without about 1/6" of the hose sticking out and tighten it just enough to compress the braid slightly so you can start it in the sleeve.

The inside of the sleeve is threaded, IIRC left hand, need to turn it onto the hose.

I don't recall the inside of the Aeroquip sleeves being threaded, only barbed. Twisting either way once the braid is all tucked in helps though.
