bent axle shaft, bearings, and other problems HELP

the car hit a curb and the drivers side axle shaft is bent (along with the panhard rod but ive reaplaced that). i need a new axle shaft. the previous owner put in 3.73's...will that affect what axle shaft i need? can i just ask for an axle shaft for a 91 Z28?

since i bent the axle shaft, that cant be good for the bearings cause the shaft is wobbling in the bearing...do the bearings allow that kind of movment? should i try to change the rear bearings while im at it? i dont have a bearing puller, is there something i can use instead? how much do bearing pullers cost? will i need a "bearing driver" too?

what about axle seals? how do i know if i damaged them?

btw ive driven the car up to 50mph and i havent heard any bad bearing noise, the wheels dont tilt or click or anything.

now im wondering if i bent the axle tubes (whatever they are called) i would hate to replace the axle shaft, oil seal, and bearings just to find out the axle is bent. how do i check for that?

thanks guys

just ask for an axle to fit your car the gears make no differacne. bad seals leak, it's cheap and easy to replace bearings, i would if there's any question about their integerty. if you're wondering if the tube is bent why don't you check it and see?

great news....GM discontinued axle shafts back in 2003 for our cars...how lame.

heres some pricing just in case any of you want to know..
axle seal: $13.53 each
axle bearings: $46.14 each

diff cover gasket: $8.10

im gonna go to some parts stores to see if they have axle shafts...if they dont, im gonna have to go aftermarket which kinda sucks cause i think u can only buy them in pairs. if anyone has any opinions about aftermarket axle shafts for our cars, feel free to chime in.

btw i think i might have just bent the axle flange and not the axle shaft. i dont think that makes a difference though

Go to a junk yard and pick one up. The axles changed in 89 so make sure you've got the right spline count (26 or later 28).

If you've got no yards around you, try a phone call to Hawk's (top of page). They can probably quote you a price and ship to you.

Check the sales board alot of people
have extra axles.

For now you could just switch your axles
to see if its a bent axle or bearing since you still have one
good side. Open up the cover then remove the cross pin
c clips then axles. This may eliminate what is bad and
whats good.

Axle bearings and seals.
If you have an auto zone near you they have the tools
to use to do the job.
Dont pay so much for bearings either
you can get them cheaper on ebay or summit.

yeah i just got back from some parts stores, none of them had axle shafts of course. 15-20 dollars for bearings. 3-4 dollars for axle seals.

im gonna get aftermarket axle shafts i guess. im not getting under a car in the junkyards around here. they are too muddy and a jack would just sink. i dont want to lay in that either...i have no intrest in getting under a pos 3rd gen with grass and **** growing all around it and who knows what animals and bugs lol

so if i have a 91 Z28, do i have 28 splines?

these aftermarket axles dont seem to have the wheel studs pressed in. can i do that myself with a hammer or what?

im looking at getting these http://store.summitracing.com/defaul...=egnsearch.asp
