hard shifting 700r4

Having trouble with my 92 tbi, when I put it in drive the car jumps
and you hear a loud thud. and it takes up to 3000rpm to shift out of 1st gear. all these problems happen when the car is started cold. things seem to die down once the car is warmed up , not as much though. am i need of a rebuild? 105k miles on the clock.

Sounds like your engine is running with a high idle when it's cold, and it's causing your car to jump when you put the car in gear. Perhaps the trouble you are having with the transmission stems from another problem with your engine.

Not really sure what the loud thud could be though. Perhaps some others will offer a clue as to what it could be.

Check your tranny fluid level. My '84 did the same thing when levels were low. Might as well adjust your TV cable while you're at it.

A broken trans mount will cause a thud. Make sure the TV cable is adjusted correctly.

take the tv cable off the tb and give it a few good tugs with the car running. It sounds like you have a stuck tv valve.

If the gas pedal gets harder to push with the engine running, then you have a throttle valve problem in the valve body. The valve body would have to be removed to get at the problem. The Trans-Go Shift kit would solve this, and more.

high engine rpm shift problem

if the engine is running at a higher rmp would that effect shifting between all gears. i have similar trouble. car does not shift smoothly between low gears. i even get throtle lag where the car stops accelerating and then wont shift. i'm lost on ideals. i have a cross fire 83 and no i'm not ready to get rid of the engine yet. thats what the mechanic said. its a $$ thing anyone know how i can make it work

thanks i will try that soon, recently ive sprayed lithium grease on the throttle retention spring, which helped out a lot, though your right it does get harder while running...

i assume this also would be causing the hard shifting? it does it on cold, and not as bad but also when warmed up, particuarly from a stop to go.
