Built Automatics?
Hey guys, got a 88 gta with l98/700r4. I was looking at swapping either a lt1 or ls1 in soon, hell maybe even building a tpi engine. I have never had a built automatic before and had some questions about them. I figure it will cost as much to swap in a t56 as it will to put in a good built 700r4. Will a built one last as long as the stock one did? It is a daily driver/ strip warrior on the weekends. What really kills them is hooking up right? The only time I would have sticky tires on it would be the weekends and the rest of the time street tires. Does a 3000 stall make your mileage go down considerably? I will probably run a procharger or n02, will that hurt any? Should I just stick with the t56 for the durability?

Quite a bit. Input drum contains 3 clutch packs. Servo must be set with a selective length pin, valve body more involved etc. Even the pump is a little more involved. This all stacks up to add time to the rebuild.

I see...seems like you could save some money by building one yourself BUT sounds difficult to pull off without experience with them
