I recently purchased a T-56 Wich is supposed to have 47k on it .I just unloaded it , brought it home and was looking at it. It looks clean with just a little road grime. While I was looking I noticed that all of the sections that bolt together have black RTV as a gasket and no composite material. My first thought was that I am getting screwed so I took the top inspection cover off just to see if I could find any evidence of gasket scraping and I could not it looks factory I also looked at all the bolt heads and they are covered with road grime also. Could this be a factory assembly or just a Hill Billy rebuild. I have 90 days to return. I know you guys can save me a Headache ! ( Please help I have $ 1100.00 tied up in this and I have never laid eyes on a T-56 before )

The only gasket the factory used was the "tubular" type.

Well I'm the wrong person to be asking about "normal" ; but here's what the tubular style of gasket looks like.

Thanks, It just seemed kind of weird to have RTV from the factory ! while we are on the subject of a T-56 does anyone have any pics of a factory setup that shows the tranny from kind of an undercarrage view , I have some brackets that came with my conversion kit from the J yard that I can"t quite seem to place. Thanks for your help !

ya it would be much cheeper for the factory to use a goop to seal it than try to lineup a paper gasket properly.

Hey, Thanks guys I feel a lot better now about the purchase. It seems to turn free in all the gears and the input shaft has verry little play. I learn something every day from this site!!!
