Bought a Moser 9" and a TH350. Plan to use solid motor mounts set up to keep the engine in the stock location. Do I need to come up with an 82 drive shaft or will the shaft out of an 89 work. If the stock shaft is too short what about the length of a fourth gen driveshaft. I figure shortening one will be cheaper than lengthing the stocker. Trying to round up parts to keep the build going...
Can I mover everything back and still use a distributor and the drive shaft etc will be the right length??
Any other solutions available???

I think you need to keep the 700, but that's just my opinion.
if you use solid motor mounts, you need a solid trans mount too, I have seen busted trans cases from the movement allowed when using solid motor mounts and not the trans mount.
I think you are asking if you can move the engine back far enough to use the stock driveshaft. I doubt it, the valve covers are closer than 3" from the firewall. plus that's a LOT of work.
all 3rd gen and 4th gen driveshafts are the same length.
shortening and lengthening shafts usually cost the same because they "retube" them, cut the tube out of the center and re-use the flanges from your old one with a new center tube. it's easier for them as opposed to physically shortening your stock tube. .... anyway that's what THEY told me when they did the one for my '85 454 monte carlo I put a 700 in.....
oh yeah, I think you mean '82 because some had 3 speeds??.... that would be a th200--- that should work, if it's 3" longer than your 700 shaft....

I have to disagree on this because from what all i have read on here if you use soild motor mounts you need to use a poly or stock type tranny mount . i will find the thread about this and post the link

When a drive shaft is shortened they usually cut the u joint flange off on a lathe, shorten the tube & reweld the flange back on.

a driveshaft from an F-body with the TH200 transmisson (82-84 V8 cars) will work with the TH350 trans. I've done it on an 86 TA i used to have. It is about 3" longer than the T5/700R4 shaft.

I was wondering if someone was going to mention that. When I bought my custom built TH350 I was sure to tell them I needed it to have the long tail shaft/housing so it would work with my stock length drive shaft. If you get a custom built tranny it shouldn't be a problem, as for getting one from an individual happy hunting.
If someone needs a core... I'm not sure about the planetaries, but the output shaft/housing/valve body/pump are good... I've got a 9" laying under my workbench.
