Muncie 4, or richmond T10
I want a good 4spd for the maro, but I want something that can work latter on with my plans. With the search buttion broke and the google tricks failing I need yalls to bear with me and help me answer some questions.
Richmond T10, will it work with a big block motor?? How bout a small block? I got a 350 right now, but I want to bump to a bigblock later on for that torque and bragging rights. Bigger is better to *******s like me.
What driveshaft, clutch, presure plate, TOB, PB and flywheel will I need What else do I need? is that a cable clutch or hydro?? Will my 10-bolt hold big block power untill I can get the ford 9" in??
Any other things I need to know?? about a auto->4spd??

I have a Richmond T-10 in my Ventura behind a 406......works real good.
I have never had much luck with Muncies.......even the "rockcrushers". I have broken them all and I prefer the Super T-10. Make sure you get good gear ratios no matter which trans you use. Its best to know what rear end gears you will be using.
I seriously doubt the stock rear end will hold up with a big block.......especially a big block with a manual transmission. I have wasted several of the stock 3rd gen rears with a mild 305.
I would say your best bet would be to use a Tremec TKO 600 5 speed. It would be stronger than any T-10, ST-10 or Munchie. Will cost a little more but well worth it in my opinion.
The Richmond T-10's dont shift real well from the factory......or at least they didnt, maybe they have changed them a little. Mine has had some work done to make it shift smoother.

If your arm don't hurt, then ya aint shiftin it right!! Something with the clutch peddle, that peddle needs to be stood on to make it go down.
Not to be retarded, but I have a Eaton posi (Carbon plate) in my 10bolt, will that swap to say a 9-bolt, or 12 bolt or anything else?? I am pretty hooked on the richmond T-10.. Good price, what I'm looking for. I want something that will cruise at 55mph (Speed limit is 45) and get good gas milage, but have the shortness to be able to rip through the gears like no other. That will dpend what rear gear I run. I would love to do a big block, but I may just stick with a SBC crate (the 350ho, 330hp, 370ftlbs tq), and a Weiland 178 s/c (with the calibrated carb this made 130 crank hp on a less agressive comp ratio and cam) So I should have only like 450 crank hp and 550ft lbs tq. That 4spd and a nice gear, I am wanting to grab mid 7's in the 1/8 with slicks, but still get 17-20mpg.

If you want good gas mileage on the highway, a 4-spd is absolutely the wrong way to go... top gear (4th) is only 1:1... no OD gear with a 4-spd.

Who said anything about the highway?? It sticks on the local roads and the drag strip. (45mph speed limit.) I know it's a 1:1 4th.
According to my calculations at 45mph with a 3.83 gear I should be setting on the 2462.1428rpm mark in 4th gear with the 1:1 ratio with a 235/60/15 (85.4228208" Circumference tire). Take the 295/50/15 tires I have on my car (83.56796" Circumference tire). That will boot the RPMS to 2515.6775rpm.
See, I listened it calcuelus class, to bad I didn't listen in english about spellin.
Gas milage is number 5 on my priority list.
1.) Reliable
2.) Fast
3.) Cheap
4.) safe
5.) Economical

If the engine is gonna have much power and you plan on drag racing the car
then you probably wont find a 4-speed that will hold up for very long.........especially if you are gonna run slicks or DOT drag radials.
Richmond T-10's and Borg Warner Super T-10's are the same trans except that the Richmond is a little stronger due to the case and gears being made from better materials. Either of those transmissions or any Muncie you might use will not likely withstand a lot of racing abuse if you use sticky tires.
About the only 4-speed that will hold up would be a Jerico or one of the other high dollar racing 4-speeds..............all of which cost WAY more than a Richmond or Muncie.
The TKO 600 would be the best way to go I think.

Some Camaros and probably Firebirds in 1982 came with 4 speeds. So, Im sure that a Muncie, T-10, ST-10 or Saginaw would work. I dont know what modifications would need to be made but Im sure its a different set up than with the T-5.
Like I posted above....the TKO600 would be your best bet........should be pretty much a bolt in deal.

ask air_adam if you're serious about swapping, he did.
Apparently a different driveshaft (one that would fit a 4spd in '82/'83 or a th350 I think), and torque arm are needed. Might need to mod the fact that the 4spd would have been mechanical instead of hydraulic for the clutch.

but within the next month or so its finally going in.Anyway... To install a factory 4-spd, you need an '82-specific crossmember, torque arm, and driveshaft. You'll also need the factory mechanical clutch linkage as well. The difference between the factory 4-spd (there was a T10, which I have, but there was mosr commonly a much weaker Saginaw 4-spd) and all the other 4-spd options is that the factory trans had a case cast with the bolt holes to mount the torque arm. All others, do not.
The only fix for this, if you use a trans w/o the torque arm bolt holes, is to go to an aftermarket torque arm setup, like those sold by Jegs or Spohn. Those mount to the body, the crossmember, or some other spot other than the side of the trans.
The driveshaft you'll need will be longer than the 700/T5 driveshaft, since the 4-spd is shorter, but its not hard to find a place locally that can modify the driveshaft you have for a reasonable price.
