its probably be more work than you want or are capable of. You will have to get some new parts and basically you have to remove the cover, remove the axles, unbolt the caps to the carrier, pull it out, swap ring gears, and remove and swap the pinion gear also. There are some special tools needed like an in/lb torque wrench and such.

If you're more than capable then why are you asking how to do it?

Your going to find you have pulled it apart and cant do a damn thing with it!

You cant put a 3 series (3.42 up) gear on a 2 series (3.08 down) carrier without an adapter!

But If you swap in the posi and its in good working order yes it will be alot better piece, more power to the ground!

I thought you would know this if your dads a mechanic and you work there too!...

Yes you can install a 3 series gear onto a 2 series carrier. You will need to buy a spacer. They are $45.00

http://www.speedwaymotors.com/xq/asp...qx/Product.htm

91048305 RING GEAR SPACER 7.5"GM W/BOLTS
RING GEAR SPACER/7.5"GM
EA $44.95

But if you have that 2 series posi, and are going to buy a new set of gears just get the ratio you want that fits the 2 series carrier. Richmond makes gear sets with ratios of 2.73 all the way up to 4.10 that fit on a 2 series carrier.

This gear set from Jegs is for 3.08 ratio and numerically lower carrier (2 series), and does not require the spacer. Has a 3.73 Ratio, 41-11 Teeth
Part #555-60010 $189.95
