Extra plug on my T-5
Hey guys, I am new to the site. I previously posted this question on Z28.com and one of the dudes referred me here to try it out. So here it is:
So I was underneath my car today getting the motor and tranny ready for removal and I noticed an extra plug hanging next to the tranny on the driver's side. I've noticed this plug before when underneath, but always forgot to bring it up. From what I can tell, there are no other connections down there for it to plug into. It just seems very sloppy of GM if that extra plug would be for the 700R4's and was just bundled in with the wiring harness. It just hangs there. Can anyone tell me what it is? Thank You.

Hard to see the end from the pic. If your sure that its not the plug for the reverse switch or an electric speedo, then it could be a 700r4 plug. That would mean that someone swapped the tranny in. Does the end have 4 prongs?

Yea, I know the picture came out kind of crappy. I am not sure if it has 4 prongs or not. I'll check it out later on today when the weather gets a little better.

Well, I looked at the plugs, and they are exactly the same. The one that goes into the T-5 tranny for the reverse lights is exactly the same as the "extra" one. I am tempted to plug it in when I get the car back together and see if when I put it in reverse if the reverse lights light up. Any other suggestions as to what that plug could be? It has only 2 prongs, just as the one that goes into the tranny.

Got me on that one. If its two prongs and has enough wire to reach the tailhousing, then its for the speedo sensor. But that fact that you have a camaro has me confused as in 89 only the birds have the electro speedo.
Anyone here have a t5 camaro that can pitch in? Could be possible that GM used the same wire harness on both camaro and bird and thats why you have the extra wire.

Yes, i ono if its the rev/back up lights or not, I can't test that until I get the car back together.
You think it would be pretty lazy of GM to do that if they used the same wiring harness in the Firebirds and Camaros. Especially if they left it hanging the way it was. If its not tucked up behind the fuel lines, it would drag on the ground. To me that would be an extremely sloppy job.

All right, so what is it doing on my Camaro? haha....thats sort of odd. Any chance all '89 5-speed Camaro's are like that? I am going to go look through my '89 Camaro Shop manual when I get home and see if it lists anything about that plug. I think it is really weird and odd that GM would be that sloppy with their setups.
Another thing, the T-56 trannies have electronic speedo's right? If I were to swap one into my car, would that plug match up? or what?

apparently the obvious needs to be stated.... helloooooo its gm
random unplugged connectors is the norm.. along with design ideas obtained from monkeys on drugs, and substandard parts everywhere important, and interior screws in highly visible spots, and clip ons in spots they shouldve put screws
i mean look, this is a ... build your own car- car.. be happy you got an extra connector for later use... GM probably wants to charge you $800 for it now
