hey guys i've heard of an add on so to speak you can put on the 700 r4 transmission to give it a higher finial drive like an extra overdrive for improved economy, i can't seem to find it on the web have any of you heard about this?
yes, look at the truck stuff. I don't think a thirdgen has the room though

I replaced my metric 200 with a 700R4. I had to have the driveshaft cut, and drill holes in the frame to move the cross member back. Not sure what you have in yours, but I understand they now make 200R4s that are very tough, and would be a bolt in (if that's what you have).

Your speaking of a gear vendors OD/UD unit, pretty expensive little piece and you would never need it on a 700R4 unless you got 4.11s in the rear and still want to do 200mph!
As for the 200-4R theirs nothing too special about it, just the metric version of the 700R4. Its drawback over the 700R4 is that its first gear is a bit higher but its gears are more 'even' than the 700r4

The 700R4 is metric. There is nothing in common between the 200-4R and the 700R4, except maybe that they're both 4 speed automatics. They're entirely different creatures.Originally Posted by 84z28350

Bah, Same thing different gears
The 200-4R was intended for use in a lighter vehicle with its gears being higher in 1st,2nd,4th.
Th 700R4 was made to haul around big chunks of steel like our thirdturds, theyve got a nice steep 1st gear to get them moving off the line

Yea, I pick a 200 4r over these damn 700s any day. Alot better gear ratios and sucks less power.

yeah, but the gear trains are smaller, the drums and planets are stamped steel instead of cast aluminum and cast iron, and and you have to completely dis assemble the trans to change the speedo gear on the output shaft. on 700's the tail comes off
200's are just cheaper and OLDER
