v6 t5 with v8

I just discovered that my tranny is actually a v6 tranny with coarse spline input shaft I have already ordered a new clutch only to find out the friction disc wont slide on the input shaft! Can I just buy a v6 friction disc and slap it in?

yes, but holding power and longevity of the disk will be compromised.

Is it 14spline? I thought v6 3rd gen t5's was 15spline....
Was the car an original v6 and that's why you have a v6 T5?

If it was an original V6 car with T5, and you just need something to get you back on the road, a v6 clutch disk will *work. You can purchase one from any major autoparts store, just when they ask you what motor is in it say v6 instead of v8.

They may make an aftermarket disk that has the v6 spline count with the larger diameter disk, I don't know, I haven't looked. If the v6 trans is something you will be keeping long term a more permanent solution than a v6 disk should be found though. It may be possible for a machine shop to swap out the center section of the disk as well.

*work can be taken many different ways. Like previously stated using a v6 clutch disk can have adverse affects on performance and should not be used if it can be avoided. The V6 T5 utilizes a clutch disk much smaller (diameter) than the V8 T5 because of what it originally mated to. This is where your holding power takes a hit, under heavy load slippage will become an issue. The other concern is that the added stress of the V8 on the V6 clutch disk will wear the disk out much faster than it would in a V6.

I found a clutch disc that will work its from a 83 s10 9 11/16 dia with 14 spline only a half inch smaller than OE

Good info about the clutch disk, I didn't realize that. Of-course I never really looked either, didn't want to give myself an excuse to stick with the T5.

As far as cutting the input shaft goes, I've heard anything from .25" to .5" I didn't have to cut mine at all though, so I'm not sure what's going on there. Mine bolted up fine and everything spins freely like it should.

The V8 input shaft is 8 and 3/4" long, the V6 one is 9 and 1/4". So you have to trim off 1/2" from the pilot bushing area. Qytum has a post on here on how to go about it. Here's a link. www.qytum.net/tech/t5info
