T5 -> T10 swap Questions
I'm going to be replacing my NWC T5 with a 3rdgen T10 from an '82 Trans Am in the next week or two, but theres a few things I couldn't really find any answers for. So.... here goes....
A) I have an aluminum L69 flywheel on the engine now, and the steel one that came with the T10. Can I keep the aluminum flywheel, or do I have to use the steel one?
B) Is the input shaft on the T5 and T10 the same? I mean, is the diameter and spline count the same? Basically, I want to know if the T10 input shaft will fit into the same clutch disc the T5 is currently hooked up to, since its a fairly new clutch.
C) Will the speedo gear stuff from the T5 just tranfer over to the T10, or will I need new stuff for that?

Yes, they both use a 26 spline input.
Speedo gears will work.
You need a straight up bellhousing instead of the canted T5 one. Lakewood makes them.

So as far as this swap is concerned, I can use the flywheel and clutch that is already on the motor then, I take it?
And I already have a factory '82 bellhousing to use for this, which is straight up.

Does anyone know if the torque arm mount from the 3spd auto is the same one the 4-spd manual would use?
I got the torque arm and mount today from someone a few hours away. I cant figure out how this torque arm mount (the one that bolts to the trans) mounts up. Any pictures or anything?

I can snap a pic if you need it still.
The torque arm poly mount is sandwiched and has 2 10mm AF bolts holding it there. That bracket is bolted to the trans with a few 13mm bolts I think.
better hurry adam, it's warming out out there, it'd suck to have the car up on jack stands for long

right! Thanks for reminding me.
The digital camera that I usually use, took off (the girl who owns it wanted to use it... tsk tsk..), so I had to use my brothers. Well I couldn't find that last night during the game so...., I just found it now...
Nice camera, but a PITA to use...
alright so:
webspace
giant high res pictures. low res crappy pictures **** me off. However I don't have a lot of webspace, so download them, they won't be up for a long time.
those pictures should tell the tale. On the drivers side of the tranny there's 3 holes, I circled them. On the passenger side, one of the holes is a through hole, you'll see which it is, I think the lowest one? anyway, the through hole takes the long bolt and nut. the others take a short and medium bolt. (I forget which is which). If you have no mounting bolts for this I can measure the bolts I have...
the picture of the torque arm on the car, has the same circles (match up colors, it'll be straight forward). Most people remove the 2 bolts below the poly mount there I would guess, but I removed the 3 bolts to seperate trans from TA. Reason is, that poly mount is TIGHT in the "clam", and I couldn't squish it with my hands enough to get those 2 bolts started, so I removed that plate from the tranny (the 3 bolts that i'm talking about), and used a c-clamp to squish the poly mount, and then put in my 2 bolts. Then bolted the assembly to the trans.
Clear as mud? Need any more info?

Ok.... I see what the problem is now. I have the bracket that holds the torque arm bushing, but not the one with the 3 bolt holes you have in the pic of the torque arm (with the bolt holes circled).
Is there any way you could get me a pic of that peice?
Thanks SO MUCH for your help so far Sonix!!!

here ya go:
torque arm trans mount pics
...there's some better views of that piece. I hope you can find it with the stuff you got with the trans, otherwise I think you might be screwed....
the bolts that hold your "clam" onto the torque arm mount, go through holes in this mount, and it's threaded into clips with internal threads on it. You can see it in the pic.

The clutch should stay in place if its not unbolted from the flywheel though, no? I won't be removing my clutch or flywheel... just dropping the T5 and its bellhousing and installing the T10 and its BH rght inplace.
