Dexron II or Dexron III...is it the same?
I realized after the fact that I dumped Dex III in the Tranny. Od course the manual calls for II. Is III just an updated version that is compatible? Kinf of like DOT 3 and DOT 4 brake fluids are.
Thanks

III replaced II
II is non existant anymore, been gone for a long *** time like a decade, or decade and a half
you worry too much
run your dextron and enjoy it

The newest oil is backward compatable. Anything that took Dexron II will now take Dextron III. You can even use the synthetic IV or V just don't mix them or at least you're not supposed to. All oils of the same grades are designed to be mixed as per industry standards.
Try finding an old tranny dipstick that just says Dexron. I think II came out in the early 70's. The original Dexron was the best however it also used Sperm whale oil as an additive and when whale hunting was banned, they needed to find a replacement. The first II wasn't very good and damaged the seals.
People also panic about engine oil. They're dipstick says to use SC oil but all they can find is SG (or newer). It's the same thing. The newer oils have replaced the older grade requirements.
