How do I tell..?

How do I tell if I have the standard 2.77 gears or the optional 3.27, I'm the second owner and I don't have the original window sticker. 2.77 is w/o limited slip and 3.27 is with right?

lift up the rear end of the car and turn the rear wheels once and count how many times the drive shaft turns.

Not exactly the best way to do it but you might be able to pull it off.

well i'm sure he can distinguish between 2 and 3 turns

Of course I could always run the RPO codes to see, which I just did

Of course if you run the RPO codes, all you'll find out is what the factory put there; NOT WHAT'S THERE NOW.

The ONLY way to know for sure, is to pull the cover off and look. Everything else has a possibility of error.

If pulling a rear end cover is a PITA to someone, they have no business in the hobby of modding cars.

Never specifically stated I was going to mod it, I'm probably going to ebay it. The car is all stock all original I don't think the woman who had it sitting for 10 years bothered to put 3.73's in. Sorry I don't have the time to even almost look at the car rather than try to do something to it when it's only my second car and I live in a deed restricted community anyways and wouldn't want to pay a fine for working on my car.

Maybe the woman who had it didn't mod it; but what if it broke, and her boyfriend/husband put one from a junkyard in it? What if it failed while under warranty and the dealer put something in it besides what came in it? Only way you'd know is to look.

My comment about having no business in the hobby was directed toward the advice about looking at the gear being a PITA. In fact, popping off the cover is normal maintenance, because for most of us, that's how we'd change the fluid.

The only way to know for sure what you've got, is to take off the cover and look. If it's not important enough to you for you to consider it sufficiently worthwhile to do that (like if you're just curious and that's it), then you don't really NEED to know in the first place. For eBay, just don't even mention it; that way you're not lying.

lol, woah.

I have a alum support cover and don't have to pull the cover to change the fluid. I have every right to be in the hobby of modding cars....I'm just saying counting teeth on a ring gear is no fun.

So does my 2:77 so it should be easy enough to read. Odds are the whole guts weren't replaced. Counting the tire rotation is accurate enough in this situation, we're talking half of a turn off, its not like its the difference between 3.42 and 3.27. But like its been said, if you're selling the only way to know for sure is to count.
