4th gen rearend swap.
Going to do a 4th gen rearend swap need help. I've checked out a couple of threads even tech page. Very vague I want to do it right. Get cables, bracket, prop. valve, etc. Want to know every little detail. By that I mean I know the main sh$%, how to remove old, intstall new one. I've already done it, but not with 4th gen rear. Do I need special e brake cable, do I need a rear with or without T.C., E brake braket(make, use 4th gen one, modify), brakelines(use stock or buy Earl's stainless lines. Part #,etc.). I really want to have everything so I can get it done the first time. I really need this info my rearend is going out starting to slip(I know it's my rearend) and making alot of noise. I'm also thinking about using 4th gen master cylinder. Thanks!

Better bang for buck. I tracked one down with 3.42 and of course bigger brakes. For $500.

$500 sounds a bit steep for that rear, imo, but maybe I am just used to getting deals all the time.
I picked up an 01 3.42 rear with no brakes Friday for $150 and the LS1 brakes I've had I picked up for $125.
I ended up toasting my Eaton Posi last sunday and shredded the ring gear last night hence the reason I got the 01 rear..

i agree its not worth the pain, i had a choice of 02 ls1 and went with 97 lt1, posi, 3.42, just had to buy new cables, i took me 1.5 hrs to exchange axle and back on the road. ls1 rotors are only slightly bigger rotors, but they have better parking brake. $500 is a little steep, but not outrageous

They charge $100 dollar core charge and they sell only gm used parts. Found a couple other places for 400 but they seemed a little shady. I even had someone tell me over a $1000 and I laughed and asked him why so much he said: "Very good reliable and popular rearend" I told him what other people were pricing and he said: "They dont know what they have"

i did this swap not too long ago to my 83 z but im not useing the ebrake stuff at all its laying around in the basement i used c4 corvette brakes instead of ls1 and i couldnt find a place in town to get the right fitings for the prop valve so i had to get a aftermarket adj. prop valve that worked out pretty well im useing the rear out of a 00 ss and it has the tcs sensor but it also is not used its just there to plug the hole in the rear end its not a big deal which style you use just find the cheapest one and build off that i got the rear w 3:43 gears and a posi minus brakes for 70.00 and found the complete brake setup on e bay for 54.00and then changed to a 4:56 gear from summit and thats all it works great and was pretty cheap you just got to ck around before buying a rear end i thjink i came out real well it just took time and patience
